ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture conducted an awareness workshop on “Brackishwater Aquaculture” on 28th August 2023 for the school students (86 nos) and teachers from Babaji Vidhyashram Senior Secondary School, Sholinganallur, Chennai. The importance of aquaculture sector in food production, employment and rural
entrepreneurship development was explained to the participants. Further, career guidance by informing the higher education and job opportunities in fisheries and brackishwater aquaculture sector in specific was also covered by Dr. T. Ravisankar, Dr. D.Deboral Vimala and Dr. S. Kanappan Principal Scientists during the programme. The students actively participated in the awareness programme and witnessed shrimp/fish/crab hatchery facilities, feed mill, soil and water analytical laboratory in the Muttukadu Experimental Station of ICAR-CIBA. Dr. P.S.Shyne Anand, Dr. P. Kumararaja, Dr. Aritra Bera, Dr. T. Sivaramakrishnan and Assistant Chief Technical Officers, Shri. S. Rajamanickam and Dr. R. Subburaj explained the research activities undertaken in the institute and answered the questions raised by the students. Students and staff in their feedback thanked CIBA Director and team for organizing an appropriate student-friendly ’learning module’ which is new-fangled to them. To mark the occasion a tree sapling was planted at the institutional premises by the active participation of the students. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. (Mrs) D. Deboral Vimala who coordinated the programme.
