ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organised an awareness programme on ornamental fish culture was organised for the staff and differently abled students of the Sneharam Special School, Manalur, Thrissur coastal district in Kerala today.
Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, interacted with the students of the special school and encouraged them to participate in fish culture initiatives using songs, and discussions.
A small-scale unit was established at the school premises to create interest in ornamental fish farming as a livelihood option for the students. The stocking of fish, aquatic plants and feeding were carried out with the help of the students and a group of four students were given the responsibility of monitoring the fish tank.
Fishermen from Venkitangu Inland Fishermen Society (a scheduled caste fisherman society in Thrissur district) participated in the programme.
