ICAR-CIFE organized ‘Agriculture Education Fair’ on 9th September 2023 at Powarkheda center situated in Narmadapuram district of Madhya Pradesh under the aegis of National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP). Around 350 higher secondary students from science stream of schools from the adjoining areas on Narmadapuram district attended the program. The aim of the Agri-Education Fair was to create awareness on Agri Education and to mainstream agriculture and allied subjects at HSC and SSC levels as per National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. In this fair student were informed about the career opportunities in Agriculture and allied sector by educational consultants, researchers and academicians. Successful entrepreneurs were also invited to interact with the students and to encourage students for entrepreneurship development. The Director of the department of Fisheries, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Bharat Singh inaugurated the program. Mrs. Sasikala, Deputy Director of Department of Fisheries, Government of Madhya Pradesh also graced the inaugural program. Dr. Srinivas Jahageerdar, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of all the centers of ICAR – CIFE, Mumbai welcomed all. Dr. Rupam Sharma, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer of NAHEP briefed about the program and the technical program. Speaking in the occasion, Mr. Bharat Singh explained about the fisheries resources of Madhya Pradesh and highlighted the opportunities in the field of Agriculture and allied sector particularly in fisheries. With the brief ice-breaking session by Dr Rupam Sharma and Dr. Shamna N., student audience were asked about their career options, to which entrepreneurship was opted by most of the students. Following this, technical session started with career guidance by Education Expert Ms. Umme Kulsum. She motivated students to look for career options in Agriculture and Allied Sciences. She also listed out different opportunities in Agriculture sciences including Agriculture Business Management.
Dr. Shashi Bhushan briefed about the process of getting admission to the undergraduate programs of Agricultural science in SAUs, CAUs and Deemed universities. Dr. Dhalong and Dr. Harsha explained about the career options in Fisheries Science. They also discussed about entrepreneurship activities that can be taken up in Fisheries sector. Dr. Pradeep Gandhale, Senior Scientist from ICAR-NIHSAD, Bhopal talked about the career options in Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science and mentioned about Pashu Palan, goatry, poultry farming.
Following this, other resource persons such as Dr. S. K. Pandey, Dr. Asheesh Pandey and Dr. Sanjay Singh Chauhan, Professors from College of Agriculture, Powarkheda, M.P. informed the students about the career opportunities in Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering, respectively.
To encourage the students for entrepreneurship, two successful entrepreneurs Mr Anil Saxena and Mr Shard Verma from fisheries and agriculture sector, respectively, were invited to share their success stories and experiences to the young students which motivated the students towards entrepreneurship.
In the interactive session, students’ queries were answered by the resource persons. Teachers accompanying the students also interacted with the faculty members and cleared their doubts. Many students expressed their concern about the acceptance of the career in agriculture by the society.
As a part of the Agriculture Education Fair, an exhibition describing about the agricultural education and showcasing different technologies of fisheries sector was also organized at ICAR-CIFE Powarkheda center. The participants visited the farm and witnessed the activities. At the end, Dr. Sunil Kumar Nayak, Officer-in charge of ICAR-CIFE
