The XVII Biennial Workshop of All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) was inaugurated today at Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Samastipur, Bihar.
Dr S.K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR, Dr P.S. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, RPCAU, Samastipur, Dr V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, Dr Anup Das, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, and Dr A.K. Singh, Director, Research, RPCAU graced the inaugural session.
Dr Chaudhari lauded the efforts of ICAR-CRIDA and AICRPAM in pioneering agrometeorology and climate change research in the country. He also highlighted the accuracy of weather forecasts has improved over time, making the agromet advisory services (AAS) a much sought-after service among the farmers.
Dr Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, RPCAU, Samastipur, urged introducing AI, augmented and virtual reality in agromet research. He also spoke about quantifying the economic impact of district agricultural contingency plans (DACPs) implementation.
Dr V.K. Singh highlighted the importance of providing timely seasonal weather forecasts in operationalizing the District Agricultural Contingency Plans. He mentioned that taking AAS to the farm level should be one of the priorities of AICRPAM.
40 scientists of AICRPAM network centers from 25 State Agricultural Universities and ICAR institutes participated in the workshop.
