A Two-day capacity-building training programme, organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), for the scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Farm Advisory Service Centres (FASCs), concluded successfully here today. The training aimed to enhance the technical expertise of participating scientists to uplift the living standards of the farming community in Punjab.
Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education and Programme Director, said that this training facilitated a platform for scientists to collaborate, share the latest advancements, and strategize solutions for farmers’ issues. Dr Bhullar further commended the productive interaction between the speakers and the participants, noting that the discussions were both insightful and practical, addressing key challenges faced in the field. He emphasized that such training programs were instrumental in empowering scientists with the latest technical know-how, thereby, enabling them to provide 24×7 advisory services and solutions to the farmers. Dr Bhullar also expressed confidence that the insights gained during the sessions would significantly contribute to improving the productivity and sustainability of Punjab’s agricultural sector.
Dr Tarsem Singh Dhillon, Additional Director of Extension Education and Associate Programme Director, shared that this training featured specialized technical sessions spanning diverse domains, including Agronomy, Soil Science, Vegetable Science, Fruit Science, Entomology, and Plant Pathology. Experts delivered talks on cutting-edge agricultural practices and technologies while addressing practical field problems brought forward by the scientists, he told. During a field visit to the agronomy farm, PAU fruit orchard and integrated farming system model, the latest ongoing field experiments and technology models were showcased and the merits of showcased technologies were discussed, he informed.
The participants also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in this knowledge-sharing initiative of the Directorate and highlighted the relevance of the training in tackling real-world agricultural challenges.
Dr GS Makkar, Incharge, Plant Clinic, said that the successful completion of this training reaffirmed PAU’s commitment to fostering innovation and capacity building within the agricultural community to ensure a prosperous future for Punjab’s farmers. Later, he proposed a vote of thanks and appreciated the programme coordinators Dr Amit Salaria and Dr Inderpreet Kaur, participants, all teaching and non-teaching staff who worked relentlessly to make the training programme a huge success.
