Under the guidance of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ropar organized a district-level awareness camp on in-situ crop residue management (CRM) at Village Sandoya, Block Nurpur Bedi, on November 6, 2024. The event saw participation from 106 farmers across various villages in Ropar district.
Led by Dr. Satbir Singh, Deputy Director (Training), the KVK Ropar expert team conducted detailed sessions on CRM techniques and sustainable wheat cultivation in residue-managed fields. Dr. Aparna, Associate Professor (Animal Science), encouraged farmers to adopt CRM practices and highlighted the use of paddy straw for livestock. Mr. Jagmanjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), provided comprehensive insights into wheat sowing techniques, weed control, and nutrient management.
Dr. Urvi Sharma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), discussed methods for managing pests, diseases, and rodents in residue-retained wheat fields, while Dr. Ankurdeep Preety, Assistant Professor (Agroforestry), promoted inter-cropping within agroforestry systems for environmental and agricultural sustainability.
The camp concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which the experts addressed farmers’ questions and distributed informative publications on crop residue management.
