ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel (NRCC) organized a two-day (24-25 October) animal health camp and farmer-scientist dialogue program in Lotana and Mudarla villages of Sirohi under the Tribal Sub-Plan, in which active participation of 290 livestock farmers, especially women, was seen.

Dr. R.K. Sawal, Director, NRCC said that under this scheme of the Government of India, the Center provides updated information along with animal health camps, farmer-scientist dialogue, seminars, cleanliness and education awareness programs to get the best production from livestock, make value-added products and solve the challenges related to animal health safety, scientific management of animals as well as to achieve the objective implied in the schemes to make the animal husbandry business profitable and to significantly improve their socio-economic status. He encouraged the livestock farmers to achieve the objective implied in the schemes.

Dr. Rajendra Kumar Patel, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Sirohi, threw light on the livestock status and related problems and talked about taking maximum advantage of these health camps.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Badgujar, Senior Veterinarian, Pindwara, expressed the need for livestock farmers to have adequate knowledge about reproduction, health, nutrition etc.

Dr. Rakesh Ranjan, Dr. Shyam Sundar Chaudhary, Dr. Kashinath and their team of the center examined the pregnancy and reproduction and other health related problems of a total of 1937 animals brought to the veterinary camps, such as 208 camels, 315 cows, 285 buffaloes, 1129 goats and sheep. The California Mastitis Test (CMT) was demonstrated to livestock farmers to detect mastitis in animals on time and in the field so that infected milk can be used to prevent human health from being affected in time. The team collected 102 blood samples from a camel colony in Sirohi for testing.

During the interaction, the cattle owners presented their animal health related problems to the NRCC team and were informed about their appropriate solutions. Along with this, school kit bags etc. were distributed to 300 school students of Government Higher Secondary School, Mudarla, to make the rural parents aware about education.
