PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, organized a five-day vocational training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation” from September 9 to 13, 2024. The programme aimed at empowering farmers, farm women, and rural youth with skills in subsidiary occupations to enhance their income.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, emphasized KVK’s role in supporting the farming community and encouraged the adoption of mushroom farming as a profitable subsidiary occupation. Dr. Bons highlighted how mushroom cultivation can significantly boost farmers’ incomes.
During the training, Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) at KVK Bahowal, conducted detailed sessions on the cultivation, spawn production, compost preparation, and crop management of various types of mushrooms, including Button, Oyster, Milky, Shiitake, and Paddy Straw mushrooms. The training featured hands-on practical sessions, enabling participants to gain practical experience in mushroom cultivation. KVK experts also delivered lectures on disease management, processing, and marketing strategies for mushrooms.
The participants visited the farm of a successful mushroom grower, Sh. Amandeep Singh Sidhu is a KVK trainee in Parsota village. He shared his journey and experiences in commercial mushroom farming, inspiring the trainees to pursue this profitable agri-venture. Dr Harjit Singh, Horticulture Development Officer, Mahilpur, also addressed the trainees, providing insights into government schemes available for mushroom farming to benefit the farming community.
