College of Agricultural Biotechnology (CABT) of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour celebrated its third Foundation Day. On this occasion, a two-day workshop on “Use of Biotechnology for Value Addition and Sustainable Agriculture” was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Cooperation and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of Bihar, Dr. Prem Kumar Sarkar. The workshop was attended by two eminent plant biotechnology experts of India. Prof. (Dr.) Nagendra Kumar Singh, Chairman, Genomic Foundation and Prof. Mrinal Kumar Maiti, IIT Kharagpur shared their knowledge and insights in this special event. Hon’ble MLA of Pirpainti, Shri Pawan Kumar Yadav was also present on the occasion. An MoU was also signed between Bihar Agricultural University and Genomic Foundation, New Delhi on this occasion. The Hon’ble Guests also released a newsletter of College of Agricultural Biotechnology.

On this occasion, Hon’ble Minister Dr. Prem Kumar also inaugurated a book fair and poster exhibition. This is the first book fair of its kind in BAU. The Hon’ble Minister inaugurated a library in the College of Agricultural Biotechnology and also planted trees in the university campus under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. Addressing the gathering in the inaugural session, the Hon’ble Minister cautioned everyone that today we are going through a phase of climate change which is having the greatest impact on agricultural production, so it is the duty of all of us to plant a tree in the name of our mother for the protection of climate and environment. He said that for environmental protection, a new initiative has been taken in the whole country towards environmental protection by dropping seed balls through drones in Bihar. The Hon’ble Minister said that modernity and consumerist culture lead to destruction, so we should follow the path of Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah Sarve Santu Niramaya.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BAU, Dr. D.R. Singh congratulated the students and teachers of the College of Agricultural Biotechnology on the foundation day and appealed to all that on this occasion all of you must plant a tree in the name of your mother. He said that soon 07 biotech laboratories are being prepared for researchers and students, world class research is being done in the already built laboratory here. He said that currently 90 students are admitted in graduation in the College of Agricultural Biotechnology and soon post graduation studies will also start here.


Prof. Mrinal Kumar Maiti of IIT Kharagpur threw light on sustainable farming with the help of biotech and said that today we have signed an MoU and in future also IIT Kharagpur will stand with Bihar Agricultural University. Former National Professor of ICAR and President of Genomic Foundation, Prof. (Dr.) Nagendra Kumar Singh said that we have traditional knowledge in agriculture but it has to be given a scientific base. On this occasion, Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. D. R. Singh inaugurated two hostels in the residential complex for the girl students of the College of Agricultural Biotechnology. Welcome address in the inaugural session was given by the Principal of the College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Dr. N. Chattopadhyay gave the speech and the vote of thanks was given by Dean Agriculture Dr. A. K. Saha.
