Advocating fiscal and family stability through self-employment, the Skill Development Centre of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) designed a five-day training course on 15.07.2024 “Setting up of Agribusinesses” for the rural dwellers. A total of 24 farmers participated in the course, held under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU.
In her welcome remarks, Dr (Mrs) Rupinder Kaur Toor, Associate Director (Skill Development), said that the training course aimed at motivating the farming community not to remain limited to agriculture only, but to start their own farm related enterprises such as value addition and food processing for the socio-economic upliftment.
The Course Coordinator Dr (Mrs) Prerna Kapila informed about the contours of the training course which were held in association with the Department of Processing and Food Engineering.
Extension Scientist Lavleesh Garg promoted setting up of small-scale units for agro-processing, which could help get rid of wheat-paddy monoculture.
From PAU, experts Dr Tarsem Chand, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering; Dr Mahesh Kumar, Dr MS Alam, Dr Preetinder Kaur, Dr Gurveer Kaur, Dr Sanjeev Rattan Sharma, Dr Satish Kumar Gupta, Dr Gurnaz Singh Gill, Dr Maninder Kaur, Dr Manpreet Kaur Saini, Dr Satish Kumar, Dr Preeti, Dr Rohit Sharma, Dr Gagandeep Kaur, Dr Manveer Singh, Dr Devinder Tiwari, Mr Karanvir Singh Gill and from AGAMARK laboratory Dr Manmeet Manav were the resource persons.
The trainees also visited agro-processing complex at village Dadahoor, tehsil Raikot, district Ludhiana for practical demonstrations.
