PAU–KVK, Hoshiarpur, under the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-I, Ludhiana, organized a comprehensive training programme on 28.06.2024 sesame cultivation at village Bachhohi. The event promoted improved cultivation and plant protection practices through cluster frontline demonstrations.
Dr Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training) at KVK Hoshiarpur, addressed the farmers and farm women, highlighting the objectives of the cluster frontline demonstrations on sesame. He detailed the recommended cultivation practices, nutrient, and pest management for the sesame variety Punjab Til No. 2. This variety, known for its profuse branching and dense capsule bearing, matures in about 90 days and yields 2.8 quintals per acre.
KVK Hoshiarpur experts, including Dr Parminder Singh (Animal Science), Dr Prabhjot Kaur (Plant Protection), and Dr Karamvir Singh Garcha (Vegetable Science), provided insights on seasonal dairy animal management, the use of mineral mixtures, uromin licks, bypass fat, integrated pest management in fruits and vegetables, summer vegetable cultivation, and integrated nutrition gardening.
During the event, sesame seeds and PAU literature were distributed to farmers for demonstration purposes, and soil sampling of demonstration plots was conducted.
