ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education celebrated the National Fish Farmers Day at 10th July, 2024 its Kolkata Centre. Sri Biplab Roy Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister, Dept. of Fisheries, West Bengal Sri Swapan Debnath, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Dept. of Animal Resources Development, West Bengal graced the program as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively. Prof. Purnendu Biswas, Former Vice-chancellor, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences, Dr. P. K. Mukhopadhyay, Former Principal Scientist & Head of Division, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Prof. A.K. Panigrahi, Former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Burdwan University, Dr. T. K. Ghoshal, Head, other scientists of ICAR-CIFE, Kolkata Centre, dignitaries from different departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendra participated in the program. To recognize the significant contributions of different sectors of fisheries and aquaculture, Hon’ble Ministers felicitated nine fish farmers and entrepreneurs with the appreciation certificates. Seeds of high-value ornamental fish produced at the Centre and farm-made fish feeds prepared at the Centre were distributed to the beneficiaries. Few extension leaflets in Bengali and English language and two feeds, namely, Leaf meal-based Green Feed for Carps and Broodstock Feed for koi fish (Anabas testudines) were released by the Hon’ble Ministers. There was an exhibition session where different input supply companies and ICAR-CIFE participated. Farmers- Scientist -Industry interaction meet was also organized. The programme was attended by 120 fish farmers from West Bengal, Assam and Tripura.
