The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, under the guidance of Dr GPS Sodhi, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, successfully organized a 10-day vocational training programme on dairy farming from May 13 to May 24, 2022. About 22 farmers and farm women enthusiastically participated in the event.

The training featured a series of expert lectures aimed at empowering participants with knowledge and practical skills in various aspects of dairy farming. Dr Munish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Animal Science, covered key topics, including clean milk production, disease control and vaccination, shed construction, and cattle feed and fodder management. He highlighted the potential of dairy farming as a profitable enterprise that can boost family income and provide nutritious food.

Dr Inderpreet Kaur Boparai, Assistant Professor of Entomology from PAU, Ludhiana, delivered a lecture on organic farming, discussing the benefits and uses of organic field crops. Dr] Anand Gautam, Assistant Professor of Farm Machinery, encouraged using paddy straw as bedding and fodder in dairy units.

Additionally, Dr BS Sekhon, Assistant Professor of Vegetable Science, advocated for vermicomposting and utilizing dairy unit waste and shared best practices for using vermicompost in horticultural and field crops. Dr Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor of Soil Science, stressed the importance of soil and water testing and the judicious use of fertilizers for sustainable soil health.

Dr Divya, Assistant Professor of Home Science, provided insights into processing dairy products for household use and income enhancement. Mrs Swarnjeet Kaur, Programme Assistant (Lab Tech), explained year-round scientific cultivation practices of fodder crops. At the same time, Ms Inderjit Kaur, Programme Assistant (Computer), discussed using social media to enhance digital market linkages and promoted PAU and KVK Ferozepur’s social media pages.

The programme also included the distribution of literature published by PAU and KVK Ferozepur among the participants to support their ongoing learning and application of best practices in dairy farming.
