The PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra,22.05.2024 Kapurthala under the aegis of Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana has started a soil sampling campaign in the adopted village Jainpur of block Sultanpur Lodhi, district Kapurthala.

Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Training), Kapurthala explained the importance of soil sampling and soil testing in the intensive agriculture. He explained that the purpose of soil sampling campaign is to make the farmers aware of the soil health status of their fields and develop the soil fertility map of the concerned village so to make judicious use of the fertilizers. The application of fertilizers as per the soil test report might help the farmers to get better economic returns in the form of high crop yield or reduction in cost of cultivation.

Dr Gagandeep Dhawan, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), explained the importance of application of fertilizers to the crop on soil test basis and encouraged the farmers to adopt integrated nutrient management technique viz. use of organic and inorganic fertilizer as additive/substitutive to enhance soil fertility. He demonstrated the correct soil sampling technique to the farmers on the field which is the first important step for authentic soil test report. He assisted the famers in soil sampling along with GPS coordinates of their respective field. The farmers showed keen interest in submitting their soil samples for judicious use of fertilizers.
