Pantnagar. 27 May 2024. Vice Chancellor Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan visited the fodder block of the university, IDF, Nagla where various fodder crops such as Napier grass, Ramie grass, Rhoade, Guinea, Bluepenic, Broom, Para, Spear, Azolla and various trees for fodder such as Subabul, Dashrath, Bikain, Salix, Prosopis Jyoliflora, Moringa etc. have been planted. Napier grass is being grown by both organic and chemical methods. During the visit, the Vice Chancellor told that Ramie grass is considered good not only for fodder but also for a strong fiber. Research on Ramie grass was started in Pantnagar Agricultural University in collaboration with National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. This grass is grown in Assam and as the heat increases and water is available, its vegetative growth takes place at a rapid pace. He said that research work has been started in the university’s Community Science College to test the quality of its fiber and in view of the strength of its fiber, there is a great possibility of its use in the textile industry. Throwing light on the nutritional quality of Moringa, he also emphasized to cultivate it on a large scale. The Vice Chancellor said that there is a shortage of 38 percent fodder in our country, so there is an urgent need to increase the productivity of various fodder crops and more work needs to be done on Azolla. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the work being done on fodder by Dr. M.S. Pal, Professor and Head of Department, Agronomy and his team. On this occasion, Director Research of the University Dr. A.S. Nain, Dean Agriculture Dr. A.K. Kashyap, Dean Veterinary and Animal Science College Dr. S.P. Singh, Dean Community College Dr. Alka Goyal, Director Communication Dr. J.P. Jaiswal, Joint Director IDF Dr. S.K. Singh, Joint Director Research Dr. Anil Yadav etc. were present.
