Theatre and dance events stole the show on the seventh day of the Inter-College Youth Festival at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Students gave scintillating performances by demonstrating their acting and dancing skills in mime, bhand, mono acting, one act plays and group folk dances. The drama items, touching the present-day societal issues, kept the audience spellbound.
The chief guest Sardar Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, while applauding the students for their verve, remarked: “The destiny of the nation lies in the hands of the budding youths. It is important for the present generation to invest their time and energy in something fruitful, and be strong morally, intellectually and skillfully.”
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, while presiding over the event, stated that the Universities were the centers of learning which broadened the intellect, sharpened the faculties and molded the character of the students. “Participation in extra-curricular activities enabled the students to develop an integrated personality,” he observed.
Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, lauded the competitive spirit of the students and reminded them of the artistes who have taken birth from this stage of PAU and scaled new heights in the national and international arenas.
Dr Vishal Bector, President of Dance, Drama and Music Club, while welcoming the dignitaries and the students, said that PAU has always provided pedestal to agriculture as well as culture.
Mr Satvir Singh, Supervisor, Cultural Activities, proposed a vote of thanks. He informed that Sardar Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, NRI Affairs Minister, Punjab will be the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony on November 9.
In solo dance, Shreya (College of Community Science), Navpreet Kaur (College of Horticulture and Forestry) and Kashish (College of Agricultural Engineering) bagged the top three spots.
In folk songs, Rajbir Singh and Ajaypreet Singh (College of Agriculture) won the first and the second prize, respectively, while Gurleen Kaur (College of Community Science) got the third prize.
In western solo, Gurleen Kaur (College of Community Science), Divya Jyoti Mahanta (College of Agriculture) and Zeenat Nanjeeb (College of Agricultural Engineering) secured the top three positions.
In western group, College of Community Science, College of Agriculture and College of Agricultural Engineering clinched the first three prizes.
In light vocal solo, Balihar Kaur and Geetanjali (College of Agriculture) bagged the top two positions, whereas Jaskeerat Singh (College of Community Science) won the third prize.
In group song Indian, College of Agriculture, College of Community Science and College of Basic Sciences clinched the top three spots.
