The Department of Business Administration (DBA), Aligarh Muslim University organised an extension lecture on “Personalizing Customer Shopping Experience Using Data and AI” by Mr Syed Atif Umar, Senior Director-Analytics, Flipkart, Bengaluru.

Mr Atif explained how Personalization is yet another level of segmentation and how most large companies are leveraging data and artificial Intelligence. He elaborated on the difference between physical (traditional) versus online shopping experiences and discussed their advantages and disadvantages.

He delineated why e-commerce is a growing platform due to reasons like convenience, economies of scale, technology and data. He also discussed topics like machine learning and AI algorithm, using data to predict and optimize recommendations for users and future actions.

Mr Atif also responded to the queries by students regarding the privacy of the customers, the sustainability of Indian E-commerce and how Flipkart can reduce biases around ChatGPT, etc.

Earlier, Prof. Jamal A. Farooquie, Chairman of the department welcomed the guest speaker and talked about personalization and segmentation, and how the advent of AI is making it possible to personalize products.

In her introductory remarks, Prof. Saboohi Nasim discussed customer shopping experience, online engagement through different social media platforms, and how AI acts as a connecting link between these platforms.

Dr Lamay Bin Sabir extended a vote of thanks and Madeeha Ahmad, a final-year MBA student conducted the programme.
