The Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Dr Satbir Singh Gosal hailed the successful organization of the seven Kisan Melas across Punjab in September.

Addressing the gathering of deans, directors, scientists and staff of PAU as chief guest of the thanks-giving function, Dr Gosal welcomed the overwhelming response to the meals (offline and online) which has enabled PAU and Punjab farmers to move from strength to strength and glory to glory in unison. “Heavy turnout of farmers speaks of mega success of melas and the trust, they repose in PAU developed crop varieties and production-protection technologies. Besides equipping the farmers with farm machinery, the University has furnished them with high-yielding varieties of wheat (PBW 826) and rice (PR 126) which are all set to create a benchmark in agriculture this year,” he added. Dr Gosal further lauded the joint contributions of safai karamcharis (sweepers) for the upkeep of the surroundings of the University and its outstation Centers after the successful conduct of the melas

Dr GS Buttar, Director of Extension Education, called upon the scientists to transfer this gratitude to the farmers whose renewed enthusiasm has always been a source of stimulation for PAU.

Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, proposed a vote of thanks and appealed to carry forward this agricultural legacy for the years to come. Present on the occasion were scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Farm Advisory Service Centers and Regional Research Stations.

Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, coordinated the programme, where a documentary directed by Dr Anil Sharma, Deputy Director (TV/Radio) was also screened
