Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), and ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, Ludhiana organized a five days training programme on ‘Mushroom cultivation as subsidiary occupation’ from August 21 to August 25,2023. The main purpose of this event was to provide hands on training to famers, farm women and youth that are showing keen interest in mushroom cultivation. Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Associate Director (Trg) KVK, Fatehgarh Sahib extended warm welcome to the participants and gave an overview of year round mushroom cultivation and its importance in employment generation. Dr. Arvind Preet Kaur Asstt. Prof. (Horticulture) informed that during the training programme, information on the various techniques for successful raising of mushrooms especially button and dhingri mushrooms, its packing, storage and marketing were shared with the trainees. A series of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on practice sessions on preparation of compost, spawning, bagging and casing etc. were conducted. She highlighted the importance of farmer’s group and farmer’s club in cultivation of mushroom. On the last day of training an exposure visit was also arranged to mushroom farm of S. Lakhwinder Singh of village Maneli, a successful mushroom grower of the district. The training programme was successfully concluded on dated 25.08.2023.
