S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University,Ludhiana. He chaired a meeting in the presence of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor and Dean, Directors and officers of the University in which various issues concerning livestock sector deliberated upon. Dr. Inderjeet Singh said that the contribution of animal husbandry to the gross domestic product of agriculture in Punjab is 38 percent but it lends a meagre budget allocation in the annual budget of Punjab. He said that it is imperative to increase this budget for the holistic development of the animal husbandry sector vis a vis for socio-economic upliftment of livestock owners and that becomes more paramount when GADVASU is the top ranking university serving the farming community, opined Dr. Inderjeet Singh.
S. Sandhwan appreciated the yeoman service being done by the university and the contribution being made in the animal husbandry sector of Punjab. He assured that he would also highlight the financial demands of the university to the attention of the Finance Minister Punjab and get them resolved.
The meeting also cogently broached upon the issue of safety concerns of human and animal life who get affected due to accidents, the damages in the fields which are a matter of concern. He said that he will convene a meeting of all the stakeholders in this regard in which a concerted effort will be made to reach a consensus. Dr. Inderjeet Singh said that the experts of the university are capable of giving complete guidance to resolve this issue. So we will give our full support. S. Sandhwan also invited Dr. Inderjeet Singh and the officials of the varsity to visit the Punjab Assembly as a delegation of the university during the next session of the Assembly.
