The 31st Annual Zonal Workshop of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Uttar Pradesh (24th to 26th September 2024) organized by ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-III, Kanpur was inaugurated at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology (SVPUAT), Meerut. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Education and Research, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, and other dignitaries.

Shri Shahi emphasized that scientists should create weather-resistant crop varieties to adapt to changing climate conditions. He also announced that the government will provide farmers with Rs 25,000 per hectare for growing baby corn and sweet corn from maize. The Minister urged the scientists to make brand products of natural farming and also validate them. He also spoke about increasing the productivity of wheat to more than 50 quintals per hectare and urged to plant all the varieties of main crops in Rabi in Crop Cafeteria at Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

Dr K.K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, highlighted the contribution of women and youth in agriculture is remarkable.

Dr P. Das, former Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) at ICAR, stressed the importance of conserving water, land, climate, and forests. He urged scientists to modernize the KVKs and enhance their operational efficiency.

Dr K.D. Kokate, Former Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) ICAR, New Delhi, said that drones should be used on more farmers’ fields so that good farming can be done in less time and at less cost.

Dr J.P. Sharma, Former Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu & Kashmir and Dr Sanjay Singh, Director General, UPCAR, Lucknow also graced the occasion.

Directors of Extension of all SAUs of Uttar Pradesh and Senior Scientists & Heads of all KVKs of Uttar Pradesh were present in the workshop.
