The Directorate of Extension Education of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a monthly training camp for the members of PAU Flower Growers Club today. As many as 30 farmers attended the camp, wherein Dr Parminder Singh, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, explained the raising of healthy flower nursery and cultivation of chrysanthemum, which if grown for commercial purpose can yield economic benefits to the growers. “The use of flowers is no longer confined to religious purpose only; these are being used for interior and exterior decorations at homes, educational institutions, public parks, farm houses, and other places also,” he added. The escalating demand for floriculture and landscaping is giving rich dividends to the farmers of Punjab, he said, while motivating farmers to encourage fellow farmers as well for its adoption, added.
Mr Gurpreet Singh Shergill, President, PAU Flower Growers Club, a progressive flower grower, shared his experience of flower cultivation with focus on production and productivity as well as expenditure and returns.
Earlier, Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education and Associate Director of the programme, welcomed the expert and members of the club. Later, Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, was the Programme Director.
