Hon’ble Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. Himanshu Pathak visited ICAR Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur on April 15, 2023. During his visit, he inaugurated the Agri-Business Incubation Unit (ABIU) at the institute main campus and interacted with incubates and mentors. The Director General visited various facilities including Post-harvest Processing Unit, Biotechnology laboratory, Entomology and Pathology laboratories of the institute and appreciated the ongoing research activities. Dr. G.P. Dixit, Director, ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur apprised the Director General, ICAR about the pulses research and developmental activities undertaken at the Institute and action plan for attaining self-sufficiency in pulses in the country. The Director General appreciated there search achievements of the institute and urged towards increasing the production of pulses especially pigeon pea and lentil which ae mostly imported pulses crop. He encouraged the scientists to develop pulse varieties resistant to abiotic and biotic stresses. Further, he emphasized the need for stronger research collaborations with national and international institutes working with similar mandate. He suggested scientists to focus on research targets and achieving them in a short time frame. Dr. Pathak also felicitated progressive farmers and pulse seed growers and released two publications. He also visited and appreciated the seed production farm and processing unit located at new research campus of institute.
