What are the mandi rates of tomato in Shivpuri Mandi, Madhya Pradesh?

As one of the major agricultural centers in central India, Madhya Pradesh has a significant role in meeting the country’s demand for various food crops. Farmers and traders from all over the region flock to the many mandis (wholesale markets) located in MP to sell or buy their produce. One such place is the Shivpuri Mandi, which is famous for its vibrant tomato trade.

Tomatoes are among the most important vegetables produced in MP, and Shivpuri Mandi is undoubtedly one of the biggest markets for them. Tomatoes are cultivated across the district in various seasons, and their rates in the mandi fluctuate according to the supply and demand.

As of June 2021, the mandi rates of tomatoes in Shivpuri Mandi are slightly higher than the previous year. According to the traders, the current rates for Grade A quality tomatoes are between Rs 20-25/kg, and for Grade B quality, it is around Rs 15-20/kg. The reason for higher rates is mainly attributed to the seasonal factors and limited supply due to planting disruptions caused by COVID-19 in neighboring states.

Despite the higher mandi rates, Shivpuri remains a significant center for tomato procurement. The mandi operates round the clock, and almost all major traders from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan operate here. The traders buy tomatoes from the farmers and then transport them to various retail markets across the country.

In conclusion, the mandi rates of tomatoes in Shivpuri fluctuate, depending on various factors such as seasonal demands, market conditions, and supply chain disruptions. While the rates may be relatively higher at the moment, the market continues to thrive, and farmers and traders alike continue to benefit from this essential crop’s demand.
