Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a flagship scheme launched by the Government of India to provide financial support to the farmers of the country. The scheme aims to improve the financial condition of the small and marginal farmers in the country. The PM-KISAN scheme was announced in the Interim Budget 2019-20 and became operational on February 24, 2019.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers are provided financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The financial assistance is provided to small and marginal farmers who own less than two hectares of agricultural land. The amount is directly transferred to the bank account of the farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

Eligibility Criteria:

To avail the benefits of PM-KISAN scheme, a farmer needs to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

1) He/she should be a citizen of India.
2) He/she should be a farmer.
3) He/she should own less than two hectares of agricultural land.
4) He/she should belong to a family that has been accepted under the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) database.

To avail the benefits of the scheme, the farmer needs to register himself/herself with the PM-KISAN portal. The registration process is free of cost and can be done either through the Common Service Centres (CSCs) or online on the PM-KISAN portal. Once the registration is completed, the farmer will receive an SMS or email confirming the registration.
