2. Land Preparation:

There are three stages of water management in paddy cultivation: the pre-flood, initial growth, and harvest stages. During the pre-flood stage, the field is flooded to a depth of 5-10 centimeters, allowing the soil to attain optimum moisture. The water is then drained to a depth of 2-5 centimeters during the initial growth stage. Finally, the field is flooded again, maintaining a water depth of 8-12 centimeters during the harvest period.

4. Nutrient Management:
Paddy crops have specific nutrient requirements for healthy growth. It is essential to conduct soil testing to determine the appropriate quantities and ratios of fertilizers needed. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are crucial macronutrients, while secondary macronutrients like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, along with trace elements, must be supplied in balanced quantities. Proper fertilization techniques, including top-dressing and split application, ensure gradual and uniform nutrient release throughout the crop’s growth cycle.

5. Weed and Pest Management:
Weeds and pests can significantly impact paddy crop growth and yield. Regular manual weeding or the application of pre-emergence herbicides helps control weed populations. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies should be adopted, including the use of insect-resistant paddy varieties, biological control agents, cultural practices, and targeted pesticide applications to minimize the occurrence and impact of pests and diseases.

6. Crop Rotation and Diversification:
Periodically rotating paddy crops with other cereals or legumes can help break disease cycles and prevent the buildup of pests or pathogens in the soil. Diversification of crop varieties can also contribute to sustainable agriculture practices and offer economic benefits.
