Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna: Benefits and Eligibility Criteria

Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (PM-Kisan) is a scheme launched on 1st February 2019 by the Government of India to provide income support to small and marginal farmers. The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of the farmers for procuring various inputs related to agriculture and allied activities.

Under the scheme, eligible farmers will receive a direct benefit transfer (DBT) of Rs. 6,000 per annum in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The funds will be transferred directly to their bank accounts. The scheme has a target of covering around 14 crore farmers across the country.

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme is open to all landholding farmers’ families, who have cultivable land and retired pensioners with a valid Aadhaar number. The beneficiaries include small and marginal farmers, who own up to two hectares of cultivable land. The scheme doesn’t have any age limit, and both rural and urban farmers can apply for it.

However, farmers who are income-tax paying taxpayers, farmers who hold constitutional posts, and serving or retired officers and employees of central and state government ministries, departments, and autonomous bodies are not eligible for the scheme.

Application Process

The application process for PM-Kisan is straightforward. The eligible farmers can apply through the PM-Kisan portal by filling in their details such as name, age, gender, category (SC/ST), Aadhaar card number, and bank account details.

After applying, the verifying officer will visit the applicant’s land to verify the details. The verification process may take around 15-30 days, depending on the area and the number of applications. Once the process is complete, the funds will be transferred directly to the farmer’s bank account.

Benefits of PM-Kisan

PM-Kisan has several benefits for small and marginal farmers. The scheme provides financial assistance to farmers, which can be used for buying seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs. The scheme provides regular and timely income support to farmers to meet their agricultural needs.

Moreover, the scheme will help in boosting the agricultural economy of the country by helping farmers increase their productivity and income. It will also help in reducing the distress of farmers who have been struggling due to several factors, including erratic weather and market conditions.

In conclusion, Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna is a welcome step towards ensuring income support to small and marginal farmers of the country. Through this scheme, the government is providing direct financial assistance to the farmers, which will help them cope with the challenges they face in their day-to-day lives.
