Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a government scheme launched in 2019 to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in India. The scheme aims to ensure a steady income for farmers and reduce their financial burden.
Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive a direct cash transfer of Rs. 6,000 per annum in three instalments of Rs. 2,000 each. The scheme covers over 10 crore farmers across the country, who are defined as those owning up to 2 hectares of cultivable land. The funds are directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency in the system.
Apart from providing financial assistance to farmers, PM-KISAN also aims to create a database of farmers, which will enable the government to identify and provide timely assistance to them during natural disasters or market fluctuations.
To avail the benefits of PM-KISAN, farmers need to register themselves on the PM-KISAN portal or approach their nearest Common Service Centre. The scheme has been implemented with the help of state governments, and they are responsible for identifying the eligible beneficiaries and verifying their details.
PM-KISAN has received positive feedback from farmers and has been instrumental in providing them with a steady source of income. The scheme has also been successful in preventing distress sales of crops and reducing the dependency of farmers on moneylenders. The government has already disbursed more than Rs. 1 lakh crore to farmers since the launch of PM-KISAN.
However, there have been some challenges in the implementation of the scheme. Some farmers have reported delays in receiving the funds, and there have also been issues with verifying the eligibility of the beneficiaries. The government is continuously working on addressing these concerns to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme.
Overall, PM-KISAN is a significant step towards ensuring the financial stability of small and marginal farmers in India. With the help of this scheme, the government hopes to uplift the farming community and provide them with a better quality of life.
