The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is an initiative taken by the Indian Government to provide financial assistance to the farmers across the country. Under this scheme, the government provides financial aid of Rs. 6000 per year to around 14 Crore eligible farmer families belonging to different parts of the country.
This scheme was launched in February 2019 and is in line with the government’s vision of doubling the income of farmers by 2022. The government has already disbursed over Rs. 89000 Crore to the farmers under this scheme.
The PM-KISAN scheme provides direct financial assistance to the farmers, who are eligible to receive Rs 6000 per annum in three instalments of Rs. 2000 each, directly into their bank accounts. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to those farmers who are in need of financial support to meet their farming expenses and livelihood.
To avail the benefits, the farmers need to satisfy some eligibility criteria, including:
• The farmer must be a citizen of India.
• The farmer must possess cultivable land in his or her name.
• The benefit of the scheme will be limited to families comprising husband, wife, and minor children.
• The farmer’s name should be registered with his/her state government.
• The farmer should have valid Aadhaar and Bank account numbers.
The government has assigned the responsibility of implementing this scheme to different State and Union Territory Governments, who are responsible for identifying the beneficiaries and disbursing the funds to the farmers’ bank accounts.
The PM-KISAN scheme has been a game-changer for the farming community in India. It has provided adequate support to farmers to carry on their agricultural operations smoothly, without worrying about their financial problems. This has not only helped in boosting the agricultural sector, but it has also helped in doubling the income of farmers as set by the government.
To conclude, the PM-KISAN scheme has brought great relief to the farming community in India, and with its continued success, it is likely to shape the future of agriculture in the country positively.
