PM-Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana: A boost for farmers’ welfare

Farmers are the backbone of the Indian economy. With India being an agrarian economy, farmers play a vital role in the development of the nation. However, their contribution to the economy is often ignored, and they face numerous challenges such as unpredictable weather, lack of irrigation facilities, and inadequate access to finance. To address these issues and improve farmers’ welfare, the Central Government launched the PM-Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana.

The PM-Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a flagship scheme initiated by the government to provide financial assistance to farmers. It was launched on February 24, 2019, and aims to provide income support to small and marginal farmers owning less than two hectares of farmland. The scheme provides a financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per year to the eligible farmers in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each.

The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and is being executed by the state governments and union territories. The implementation of the scheme is being closely monitored by the Central Government to ensure that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

The primary objective of the PM-Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana is to provide financial support to farmers to meet their agricultural expenses, including the purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs. The scheme aims to ensure that farmers do not have to incur debts to meet their expenses, and their income is sufficient to sustain their livelihood.

To avail of the benefits under the scheme, farmers can register themselves online on the PM-Kisan portal. The farmers can also approach the authorized Common Service Centers (CSCs) to register themselves for the scheme. The farmers need to provide their Aadhaar number, bank account details, and land details to enroll in the scheme.

The scheme has been a great success in improving farmers’ welfare and has received immense popularity among farmers. By March 2021, the scheme had reached out to more than 10 crores farmers across the nation and provided a cumulative benefit of Rs. 92,231 crore. The scheme has proved to be a significant step by the government towards doubling farmers’ income by 2022.

In conclusion, the PM-Kissan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a game-changing initiative by the government. It has brought much-needed relief to small and marginal farmers and has boosted their income. The scheme has also played a crucial role in promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing the dependence of farmers on moneylenders. With the successful implementation of the scheme, the government aims to ensure that farmers’ welfare remains a top priority and the agricultural sector continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s development.
