The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna, also known as the PM-KISAN scheme, was launched by the Government of India on February 24, 2019, to provide income support to small and marginal farmers across the country. The scheme is aimed at supporting farmers who have less than 2 hectares of landholding by providing them with a direct cash transfer of Rs. 6000 per annum to meet their agricultural expenses and improve their livelihoods.

Under this scheme, farmers will receive the first installment of Rs. 2000 within three months of the launch of the scheme, with the rest of the amount being directly transferred to their bank accounts in three equal installments of Rs. 2000 each every four months. The scheme will cover over 145 million farmers, making it one of the largest income support initiatives in the world.

The PM-KISAN scheme is expected to bring a significant positive impact on the lives of farmers across the country. According to government estimates, the scheme will benefit around 85 percent of the farmers who own less than five acres of land. This will include around 70 percent of the farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, two of the most populous and agriculturally significant states of the country.

The PM-KISAN scheme is expected to provide additional support to farmers during times of distress, such as droughts, floods, and other calamities, and also encourage them to make investments in livestock, machinery, and other farming activities. The scheme is also aimed at increasing the income of farmers, thereby reducing rural poverty and increasing rural demand for goods and services.

In addition to providing direct income support to farmers, PM-KISAN scheme also provides other benefits such as life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh and interest-free crop loans. The scheme is entirely voluntary, and farmers can opt-in or opt-out of the scheme as per their convenience and preference.

To avail of the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme, farmers need to register themselves on the PM-KISAN portal or with their respective State/ UT governments. The registration process is simple and can be done both online and offline. If eligible, farmers will receive the benefits of the scheme directly in their bank accounts.

To conclude, the PM-KISAN scheme is a crucial initiative by the government of India to support small and marginal farmers, increase their income, and reduce rural poverty. The scheme is expected to bring significant positive impact to the lives of millions of farmers across the country.
