Information on fertilizer dose in mustard crop

Fertilizer is an essential element for cultivating crops. It contains various types of nutrients that are necessary for the growth and development of the crop. For mustard crop, fertilizer plays an important role in achieving a quality yield. In this article, we will discuss the information on the fertilizer dose required for mustard crop.

Mustard is one of the primary oil seeds crop grown in India. It is grown in both rainfed and irrigated conditions. In general, mustard crop requires nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash as primary nutrients. Apart from these, it also needs secondary nutrients like sulfur, calcium, and magnesium. The amount of fertilizer required depends on various factors like soil type, climate, and crop growth stage.

For mustard crop, the recommended dose of fertilizer is 120 kg of nitrogen per hectare. This can be applied in two or three equal splits. The first dose should be given at the time of sowing, the second dose after 30-35 days, and the third and final dose after 60-70 days of sowing.

Apart from nitrogen, the recommended dose of phosphorus is 60 kg per hectare and potash is 40 kg per hectare. These can be applied as a basal dose during sowing. In addition to these, secondary nutrients like sulfur, calcium, and magnesium can be added as per the soil test report.

One important aspect to be considered is the method of fertilizer application. Mustard crop requires shallow placement of fertilizer. It should be applied near the root zone and mixed thoroughly with the soil. The use of drip irrigation or fertigation is also beneficial for efficient fertilizer use.

Overuse or underuse of fertilizer can have adverse effects on the crop yield. Overuse of nitrogen can result in excessive vegetative growth and delay flowering. On the other hand, underuse of nitrogen can lead to stunted growth and lower yield. Therefore, it is crucial to follow the recommended fertilizer doses.

In conclusion, the fertilizer dose for mustard crop should be based on soil test reports, crop growth stage, and the recommended doses of primary and secondary nutrients. Proper application and use of fertilizer leads to higher yield and quality production of mustard crop.
