India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched the Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) in February 2019. The scheme aims to provide financial support to farmers across the country, primarily small and marginal farmers, by providing them an income support of Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal installments.
Under the scheme, eligible farmers are expected to receive the first installment of Rs. 2,000 between December and March of the financial year 2021-22. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the first installment was released in April 2020 instead of the initial deadline.
Farmers are required to submit their accurate Aadhaar card numbers, names, and bank account details to receive the benefits of the PM-KISAN plan. To help fast-track the verification process, the government also implemented an online self-registration process.
To check the status of their PM-KISAN installments, farmers can check the official website of the scheme or head to their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). Farmers can also get in touch with the PM-KISAN helpdesk by calling the toll-free number 1800115526.
As of September 2021, the government has disbursed over Rs. 1.29 lakh crore to farmers under the scheme, providing direct financial support to 10.88 crore farmers across India.
In conclusion, the PM-KISAN scheme is aimed at providing much-needed financial support to small and marginal farmers across India. By providing direct income support, the scheme ensures that farmers receive much-needed financial assistance to help them sustain their livelihoods and improve their standard of living. With the implementation of the PM-KISAN scheme, farmers across the country have a brighter future to look forward to.
