Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (PM-KISAN) is a government scheme launched by the Indian government in February 2019 to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in the country. The aim of this scheme is to supplement the financial needs of farmers for procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, an income support of Rs. 6,000 per year is provided to eligible farmers in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The scheme provides assistance to farmers for meeting their expenses related to agriculture such as seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, equipment, and other agricultural activities.
To be eligible for the PM-KISAN scheme, a farmer must be a resident of India and possess less than 2 hectares of cultivable land. The scheme aims to benefit around 12 crore small and marginal farmers across the country. The scheme does not have any age limit for beneficiaries, and the benefits are transferable to all eligible farmers.
The implementation of the PM-KISAN scheme is done by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. The state governments are responsible for the identification of beneficiaries and maintaining the database of eligible farmers. The scheme has been extensively promoted through various channels to ensure maximum enrollment of eligible farmers.
Overall, the PM-KISAN scheme has been instrumental in supporting small and marginal farmers in meeting their agricultural expenses and improving their livelihood. It has provided significant financial assistance to farmers across the country, thereby contributing towards the overall development of the agriculture sector in India.
