The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a scheme launched by the Government of India in February 2019. The aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers for meeting their agricultural requirements.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, the Government of India provides an income support of Rs. 6,000 per year to eligible farmers in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The assistance is directly transferable to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
The scheme is open to all farmers in the country, including farmers from the Union Territories. However, the following categories of farmers are not eligible for the scheme:
1. Farmers who have held any public office in the past.
2. Farmers who have paid income tax in the previous assessment year.
3. Farmers who have a professional degree.
4. Farmers who work in government institutions or state government institutions.
The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The responsibility of identification of beneficiaries is assigned to the State Governments and UT Administrations. The State Governments and UT Administrations can implement the scheme through State Nodal Agencies (SNAs). The SNAs play a crucial role in the successful implementation of the scheme by verifying the eligibility criteria of farmers and transferring the benefits directly to their bank accounts.
The PM-KISAN scheme has been a boon for small and marginal farmers in the country. The direct transfer of funds helps the beneficiary farmers to meet their agricultural requirements and improve their income. Moreover, the scheme has also reduced the debt burden on farmers.
In conclusion, the PM-KISAN scheme is a revolutionary initiative by the Government of India to improve the financial stability of farmers in the country. With the successful implementation of the scheme, the agricultural sector in the country is set to witness tremendous growth in the near future.
