PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna is a central government scheme that aims to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in India. The scheme was launched on 24 February 2019 by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who announced that the government would transfer Rs. 6,000 per year to each eligible farmer in three equal installments.

The objective of the scheme is to enable farmers to take care of their agricultural needs without facing financial constraints. Under the scheme, the government provides financial assistance to farmers for purchasing seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary inputs required for agricultural production.

To be eligible for the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna, a farmer must possess a valid Aadhaar card and have a cultivable landholding of up to 2 hectares. The scheme is applicable to all farmers, including tribal farmers.

The first installment of Rs. 2,000 was transferred to eligible beneficiaries in February 2019. Subsequently, the second installment was transferred in April and the third installment in August, bringing the total amount to Rs. 6,000 for the year. The scheme was initially applicable from 1 December 2018, but farmers who were registered after the cut-off date would receive the payments from the next cycle.

The government has also made arrangements for farmers who missed out on the first installment. Such farmers are provided with a window of four months to update their documents and claim their first installment.

The PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna has been a boon for Indian farmers, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
