The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (MoAFW) in 2019. The PM-KISAN scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to small and marginal farmers across the country. The primary objective of the initiative is to supplement the income of these farmers and enable them to take care of their basic needs such as buying seed, fertilizers, etc.
The PM-KISAN scheme provides a direct cash transfer of Rs. 6,000 per year to eligible farmers. The assistance is provided in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each, every four months. The beneficiary farmers are selected based on certain criteria set by the government.
To be eligible for the scheme, the farmer must own less than two hectares (5 acres) of land and have a valid Aadhaar card and a savings bank account. The financial assistance is also extended to the families of farmers who have passed away.
The scheme has been implemented across the country, covering around 14.5 crore farmer families. The initiative has been a great relief for small and marginal farmers, who struggle financially due to low income and rising costs of farming inputs.
The PM-KISAN scheme has been successful in bridging the gap between the farmers and the government. It has brought much-needed assistance to farmers who have been grappling with issues such as low productivity and high debts. The scheme has also encouraged farmers to adopt modern technologies and improve their farming practices.
The government has taken several measures to ensure the success of the scheme, including the use of digital technologies to aid in the verification of beneficiaries and direct transfer of funds to their bank accounts.
The PM-KISAN scheme has emerged as a game-changer for small and marginal farmers in the country. It has helped in improving their livelihoods and has also contributed to the overall growth of the agricultural sector. The scheme is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the lives of farmers and ensuring their financial inclusion.
