Adequate potassium supply promotes better crop health, improves drought tolerance, and enhances sugar content in the harvested canes. Potash fertilizers should be applied before planting, considering soil potassium levels and the specific requirements of the crop variety.

Apart from the primary nutrients, sugarcane also benefits from secondary macronutrients like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, as well as micronutrients such as iron, zinc, manganese, copper, and boron. These nutrients, although required in smaller quantities, are equally crucial for overall crop growth and development. Conducting regular soil tests can provide valuable insights into the availability of these nutrients, allowing farmers to address any deficiencies through appropriate foliar or soil applications.

It is worth noting that while fertilizers play a vital role in sugarcane cultivation, their application should be complemented by good agricultural practices, including proper irrigation, weed and pest management, and adequate crop rotation. Moreover, the use of organic fertilizers and sustainable farming techniques can promote soil health and reduce environmental impact.

To maximize productivity and ensure sustainable sugarcane cultivation, it is essential for farmers to undertake site-specific soil analysis, monitor crop nutrient requirements, and apply the right fertilizer dose at the appropriate growth stages.
