Title: Disease Control in Orange: Ensuring Health and Sustainability Introduction:

Fertilizer dose in paddy nursery

Of all the stages of the paddy cropping season, the nursery stage is undoubtedly the most important as a good start is always the key to a successful end. In order for the seedlings to grow strong and healthy, fertilizers play a vital role. Applying the right amount of fertilizer in paddy nursery is important so that it provides the seedlings with the necessary nutrients they need for optimal growth.

The three major nutrient elements needed for paddy nursery are Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, often referred to as NPK. Nitrogen promotes growth and increases the greenness of the leaves, while Phosphorus helps in the root and stem development. Potassium is essential for the overall growth and resistance to diseases.

Fertilizer application can be done in two ways, that is, Broadcast method and Line method. In broadcast method, the fertilizer is spread uniformly over the nursery area while in the line method the fertilizer is applied in rows following a certain distance. In general, 3-4 kg of Urea, 3-4 kg of SSP (Single Super Phosphate) and 2-3 kg of MOP (Muriate of Potash) are applied for every 10 square meters of nursery beds. The application of fertilizers is normally done in two stages, first being at the time of land preparation and the second during the main seedbed preparation.

The first application of fertilizer is applied shortly after preparing the land, once the soil is mixed properly. This ensures that the soil absorbs the fertilizer efficiently. The second application is applied just after leveling the nursery bed to a height of 2-3 cm using a rake. The fertilizer is mixed with soil before being spread uniformly over the bed. The fertilizer application is followed by thorough watering to allow the fertilizer to dissolve completely and penetrate the soil.

It is crucial that fertilizer applications are done according to a regular schedule. The first application of fertilizer is done when preparing the land, and the second is applied at the main seedbed preparation. Subsequent applications should be made based on the growth stage of the plant. It is important to note that excessive application of fertilizer may encourage the growth of weeds and other non-crop plants.

In conclusion, the application of fertilizers during the paddy nursery stage is essential for the growth and development of healthy seedlings. Proper application of NPK fertilizers in two stages following the recommended amounts and schedules will ensure optimal growth and yield of paddy crops.
