Type of Fertilizers
Brinjal responds well to both organic and inorganic fertilizers. Organic fertilizers such as compost, farmyard manure, and poultry manure are rich in essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These nutrients are released gradually, providing nourishment to the plant for an extended period. Inorganic fertilizers such as urea, DAP, and MOP are also effective in supplying essential nutrients to the plant, but they release their nutrients quickly and need to be applied in smaller quantities more frequently.

NPK Fertilization
Brinjal requires a balanced blend of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) fertilization for proper growth, development, and reproduction. Nitrogen is essential for the vegetative growth of the plant, while phosphorus promotes root development, flower, and fruit formation. Potassium, on the other hand, helps to improve the quantity and quality of the fruit. It also enhances the plant’s tolerance to pests and diseases, drought, and frost.

Timing of Application
Fertilizer application in brinjal should be timed according to the plant’s growth stage. The first dose of fertilizer should be applied at the time of planting in the soil. The second dose should be applied after the first flowering, and the third dose should be applied after the fruit setting stage. However, a general guideline for fertilizer application rates is to apply 100-120 kg of N, 60-70 kg of P2O5, and 60-70 kg of K2O per hectare of land. This should be divided into three equal parts, with each part applied during the appropriate growth stage.
