Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a scheme launched by the Government of India in 2019. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per year in three installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial support to small and marginal farmers to meet their farm and family expenses.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Land Ownership: The landowner or the cultivator should be the owner of the land. In case it is on lease, the leaseholder would not be eligible for the benefits.
2. Number of Landholdings: The scheme is applicable only to farmers who own up to 2 hectares of cultivable land.
3. Age: The beneficiary farmer should be between the age of 18 to 60 years.
4. Account and Aadhar Card: The farmer must have an active bank account and a valid Aadhar card. This is required for the transfer of funds to their accounts.
5. Profession: Farmers of all professions are eligible to avail of this scheme, including sharecroppers and tenant farmers.
6. Exclusion Criteria: The following categories of farmers are not eligible for this scheme- institutional landholders, farmers who pay income tax, serving or retired employees of the Central/State Government, or local government bodies, and professionals like doctors, engineers, architects, amongst others.
The process of application for this scheme is straightforward. The eligible farmer simply needs to visit his/her nearest Common Service Centre or Agricultural Department office with the required documents, i.e. land records, Aadhar, and bank account details. The government officials will verify the details, and upon successful verification, the beneficiary’s bank account will be credited with the first installment of Rs. 2,000. The remaining two installments will be automatically transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account.
