Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is an initiative of the Government of India launched in February 2019. It aims to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers across the country. Under this scheme, eligible farmers will receive a direct payment of INR 6,000 per year in three equal instalments directly to their bank accounts.
The scheme covers all landholding farmers’ families in India, with cultivable landholding up to two hectares. The objective of PM-KISAN is to ensure a guaranteed income to the small and marginal farmers to support their agricultural activities. It would also supplement the financial needs of the farmers in purchasing various inputs related to agriculture, such as seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides.
The scheme has a budget of INR 75,000 crore and is expected to benefit around 12 crore farmers. The first instalment of INR 2,000 was paid to eligible farmers during the financial year 2018-19, and the next two instalments of INR 2,000 each were disbursed in the financial year 2019-20. The remaining instalments of INR 2,000 each were transferred to eligible farmers in 2020-21.
The registration process for PM-KISAN is simple and straightforward. The farmers can visit the official website of PM-KISAN (https://pmkisan.gov.in) to register themselves. Alternatively, they can also visit the nearest Common Service Centres (CSCs) to register for the scheme.
The government has also launched a mobile app called PM-Kisan App, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The app provides easy access to various features such as self-registration, checking payment status, and correcting the details of beneficiaries.
However, to avail the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme, the farmers need to meet certain eligibility criteria. The farmer should be an Indian citizen and must have an active bank account. Additionally, the farmer should own cultivable landholding of up to two hectares, and the landholding should be recorded in the farmer’s or family member’s name.
In conclusion, PM-KISAN is a much-needed scheme for the small and marginal farmers of India. It provides them with a guaranteed source of income to manage their agricultural activities better. The government has launched this scheme with the aim of improving the socio-economic condition of the farmers and the agricultural sector as a whole.
