PM-Kisan, short for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, is a Central Sector Scheme introduced by the Government of India to provide income support to landholding farmers’ families across the country. This scheme plays a pivotal role in supplementing the financial needs of small and marginal farmers, aiming to cover approximately 125 million families nationwide. Under this initiative, each beneficiary is entitled to receive Rs 6,000 per year, disbursed in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each every four months.

Eligibility Criteria for PM-Kisan Beneficiaries:

1. The applicant must be a landholding farmer family, comprising a husband, wife, and minor children, who own cultivable land as per land records of the respective State or Union Territory.
2. The family must fall under the category of small and marginal farmers (SMFs). The SMF definition generally entails a landholding up to 2 hectares or 5 acres.
3. All landholding farmers irrespective of the size of their landholdings are now eligible for the scheme. The expanded scope was included from June 2019 onwards to cover all farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings.
4. Institutional landholders and farmer families holding constitutional posts, serving or retired officers, and employees of State/Central government as well as PSUs, and those who pay income tax, are excluded from the scheme.

Application Process for PM-Kisan:
The registration for PM-Kisan can be conducted online or through the local patwari/revenue officer, nodal officers designated by the states, or through the Common Service Centres (CSCs). To apply, the farmer must provide their Aadhar number, bank account details, and a declaration of their landholdings.

Checking Beneficiary Status under PM-Kisan:
Once a farmer has applied for the PM-Kisan scheme, they can check their beneficiary status online. Here is how:

1. Visit the official PM-Kisan website: [pmkisan.gov.in](https://pmkisan.gov.in/).
2. Click on the ‘Farmers Corner’ located on the home page.
3. Select the ‘Beneficiary Status’ option. Here, the applicant can find out whether their application has been accepted, is under scrutiny, or has been rejected.
4. Enter the required details such as Aadhar number, Mobile number, or farmer registration number.
5. Click on ‘Get Data’ to view the status of your application.

The beneficiary status provides details such as whether the installment has been credited to the beneficiary’s bank account or if it is in process. In case there is an issue with the bank details or the application, that will also be indicated, allowing the applicant to make necessary corrections.
