The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a government welfare scheme that aims to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in India. The scheme was launched in February 2019 and is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a farmer is entitled to receive Rs. 6000 per annum in three equal instalments of Rs. 2000 each. The beneficiaries of this scheme are identified and selected by the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations. The identification and selection process is done through the use of land ownership records, Aadhaar identification and other relevant documents.

In order to be eligible for the PM-KISAN scheme, the farmer must own cultivable agricultural land, that is, land on which crops are grown. The land must be registered in the name of the farmer or the farmer’s family. The beneficiary must also have a valid Aadhaar number and bank account, in order to receive the financial assistance.

The scheme is being implemented in a phased manner, with the first phase covering farmers from 14 States and Union Territories. These States and Union Territories include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Telangana and Uttarakhand.

The financial assistance provided under this scheme is aimed at helping farmers to meet the expenses related to cultivation, such as purchase of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and labour. The scheme is expected to benefit around 12 crore small and marginal farmers in the country.
