The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan) is a government program launched by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers in the country. The scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers for their agricultural activities and ensure their economic well-being.
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive direct income support of Rs. 6,000 per year in three equal installments of Rs. 2,000 each. The financial assistance is provided to farmers in order to help them meet their expenses related to farming, such as buying seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs.
To be eligible for the PM-Kisan scheme, a farmer must own less than 2 hectares of agricultural land and possess a valid Aadhaar card. The scheme is applicable to all farmers, irrespective of their social or economic status, and aims to benefit around 14 crore farmers across the country.
The funds under the PM-Kisan scheme are transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, which ensures transparency and eliminates leakages in the system. The scheme is being implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
Since its launch in December 2018, the PM-Kisan scheme has provided financial assistance to millions of farmers and has played a crucial role in improving their livelihoods. The scheme has been widely appreciated for its simplicity, transparency, and efficiency in reaching out to the intended beneficiaries.
In conclusion, the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a commendable initiative by the government to support the farmers of the country and ensure their economic well-being. It is a step towards realizing the vision of doubling farmers’ income and transforming the agricultural sector in India.
