On 24 March 2026, ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek (under ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland, and ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone VII, Umiam) successfully organized a Farmer’s Fair-cum-Kisan Gosthi. The event, focused on “Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development,” took place at Phusachodu village in Phek district, Nagaland, in collaboration with ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora.

Key Addresses and Insights
Shri Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the critical importance of sustainable agriculture for ensuring food security and fostering rural prosperity. Shri Khamo encouraged farmers to adopt improved technologies, practice soil health management, and integrate livestock into their farming systems. He also highlighted opportunities within Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture, commending ICAR-KVK Phek for its efforts in empowering farmers.
Role of KVKs and Farmers’ Rights
The event underscored the significant role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in promoting climate-resilient agriculture. Their efforts in encouraging value addition, post-harvest processing, and packaging of horticultural crops were also highlighted. Farmers were further sensitized to the importance of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV&FRA) in safeguarding their rights and conserving indigenous seed diversity.
Experience Sharing and Technical Sessions
A key highlight of the programme was an experience-sharing session where farmers from various villages, including Phusachodu, K. Basa, Kikruma, Thipuzu, Pfutseromi, and Porba, shared their insights. Representatives discussed their challenges, innovations, and success stories, fostering peer learning and motivating others to adopt improved agricultural practices.
During the technical session, experts from ICAR-IVRI Research Station, Bengaluru, KVK Phek, and ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Porba, delivered talks on diverse agricultural topics. An interactive session followed, allowing farmers to address their queries directly with the scientists.
Support for Farmers
To further promote improved agricultural practices, vegetable seed kits developed by KVK were distributed to the participating farmers.
Expected Impact
This initiative is anticipated to contribute significantly towards sustainable agricultural development and improved livelihoods for the communities in Phek district.
