How to control damping off of chilli?

As a plant parent, one of the most frustrating things to see is your beloved plants dying due to damping off. This is a common problem among chili plants, and it can be frustrating to deal with. If you’ve ever experienced this issue, you’ll know that damping off is a fungal disease that attacks the stem of the plant causing it to rot and fall over. Fortunately, there are several steps that you can take to prevent and control damping off of chilli plants.

1. Use quality soil

Using good quality, well-draining soil is crucial to prevent damping off of chili plants. Soil that retains too much moisture can be a breeding ground for fungi, which makes it important to ensure that the soil is well-draining and has sufficient organic matter. You can test the soil drainage by filling the pot with water and seeing how long it takes to drain. Instead, be sure to water your plants wisely by avoiding standing water and letting the soil dry out a bit before watering again. It’s also important to water the soil instead of the leaves to prevent water from collecting and spreading the fungi.

4. Provide proper ventilation

Chili plants need adequate air circulation to grow healthily and prevent the fungus from taking hold. Ensure that you provide proper ventilation by placing an oscillating fan near your plants to increase the airflow. This helps to minimize moisture levels and drying the soil between watering.

5. Use a fungicide

If you’ve tried the above steps and you’re still experiencing damping off in your chili plants, it may be time to use a fungicide. Fungicides are chemical substances that can be used to control or prevent fungus growth. You can apply it directly to the soil or use it as a foliar spray. Some effective fungicides include copper sulphate, sulfur sprays, and hydrogen dioxide.
