Farmers’ Prosperity- Key to a Strong Uttarakhand : Chief Minister

On the occasion of 25th Foundation Day of Uttarakhand State, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar organized a Farmers’ Fair and Exhibition at Lohiahead Gandhi Maidan in Khatima in the leadership of Vice-Chancellor of Pantnagar University Prof. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief guest inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon and also visited the stalls displayed by the different stake holders in the exhibition. On this occasion, Chief Minister Dhami welcomed the farmers and said that farmers are our food providers; if farmers are strong, our country and state will be strong and prosperous. He said that Pantnagar University is the birthplace of the Green Revolution and continues to conduct research and studies in the field of agriculture. He urged all farmers to use improved seeds and technology in agriculture to increase production and strengthen their economy. He added that the government belongs to both farmers and soldiers, and any problem faced by farmers will be resolved on priority. To double farmers’ income and strengthen their economy, the Central and State Governments are running several welfare schemes for farmers. The Chief Minister appealed to farmers to take up animal husbandry, fish farming, poultry farming, honey production, sericulture, and other such activities. He mentioned that for the first time in the history of the state, the government has increased the sugarcane price by ₹30 per quintal to increase the income of sugarcane farmers. He further said that the program organized by Pantnagar University will continue to be held regularly in the state. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed six e-rickshaws to women of self- help groups under the REAP project, grant cheques of ₹49,750 each to two progressive farmers from the agriculture department, and symbolically distributed kits to five farmers out of the 1,000 farmer kits prepared. He said that together, farmers and the government will make Uttarakhand the best state in the country. Farmers expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami by raising loud slogans in appreciation of the increased sugarcane price. Present on the occasion were Prof. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-chandler, GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Mayor Shri Deepak Bali, Municipal Chairman Shri Ramesh Chandra Joshi, Chairman of Nanakmatta Shri Prem Singh Durna, former MLAs Dr. Prem Singh Rana and Shri Dan Singh Rawat, Shri Rajpal Singh, District Magistrate Shri Nitin Singh Bhadoriya, Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Manikant Mishra, Shri BC Jaikishan, CDO Shri Divesh Shashni, University Director of Administration and Monitoring Shri BS Chalal, Additional District Magistrate Shri Pankaj Upadhyay, SP City Dr. Uttam Singh Negi, SDM Tushar Saini, Director Research Dr. S.K. Varma, Director Extension Education Dr. Jitendra Kwatra and other University and district officers.
