Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan): An Initiative to Support India’s Farmers

Eligibility criteria for PM-Kisan:
– All Small and Marginal Farmers’ families’ having cultivable land up to 2 hectares.
– Families that own cultivable land as per land records of the respective State/Union Territory (UT) as on 01.02.2019.
– Multiple members of a family can apply separately for receiving the benefit under the scheme, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria.

Note: Farmers covered under the following categories of the operational holdings will not be eligible for the benefit of the scheme.
– Institutional landholders.
– Farmers who have retired from government services or holding constitutional posts.
– Professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc.

Benefit under PM-Kisan:
– Under PM-Kisan, eligible farmers are provided Rs. 6,000 annually in three instalments of Rs. 2,000 each.
– The 1st installment is transferred from 1st April to 31st July, the 2nd installment from 1st August to 30th November, and the 3rd installment from 1st December to 31st March.

Process for registration and benefit transfer:
– Beneficiaries’ details are uploaded and verified by the State/UT Governments on the PM-Kisan web portal.
– The fund transfer is done directly to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
– Banks play a critical role in facilitating the enrolment of farmers and opening their bank accounts. Banks also assist in the resolution of grievances received from farmers.
