A three-day training programme on “Advanced Horticulture Technologies” was conducted at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru from 07.05.2025 to 09.05.20255 for farmers from ATMA Solapur, Maharashtra. The objective of the programme was to disseminate the latest horticultural innovations to the farmers and improve their knowledge on scientific cultivation practices for enhanced farm productivity and profitability.

The programme commenced with session on advanced technologies in vegetable crops, followed by a session on fruit crop production, nutrient and water management and natural farming practices. The day concluded with a demonstration of fruit and vegetable processing machineries and visit to BESST-HORT unit.

On the second day, the participants were trained on advanced floriculture technologies, protected cultivation of vegetables and soilless cultivation methods. Exposure visits to the Centre of Excellence on Protected Cultivation, ICAR-IIHR nurseries and demonstration blocks were arranged. The sessions also included information on greenhouse design and fabrication techniques suitable for quality seedling production and high-value crops under protected environments.

The final day featured field visits to KVK Hirehalli and CHES Hirehalli to showcase on-ground implementation of advanced horticulture practices. A panel discussion on pest and disease management in major horticultural crops was conducted followed by a session on post-harvest technologies and value addition in horticultural crops. The training concluded with a valedictory session a visit to the Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC), ICAR-IIHR.

The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Ramya H R and Dr. Atheequlla G A, and provided an effective combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on exposure, aimed at improving the horticultural practices and income levels of participating farmers.
